bg Architecture & Design awarded Carbondale Rural Fire Protection District Capital Construction Projects
The Carbondale Rural Fire Protection District (CRFPD) provides EMS, structure fire, and wildfire protection for Carbondale, Redstone, Marble and surrounding areas. In the election cycle of November 2025, the CRFPD had two ballot measures to raise funding for facility improvements and workforce housing that were both certified during the voting process.
The additional funding will provide 24 new affordable housing units for volunteers and full time CRFPD staff, the replacement of outdated fire stations in Redstone and Missouri Heights, and improvements to Station 81 in Carbondale – the primary station for CRFPD.
bg Architecture & Design was selected as the Architect of Record for the capital constructions projects in December of 2025 after an open Request for Proposal process. The team at bg couldn’t be more excited about working on a project that has immediate impact on the community we call home.
Phase 1 is the renovation of Station 81 Crew Quarters. The renovation seeks to improve day-to-day operations, response time of the CRFPD staff, and provide a more comfortable living situation for those who spend their time there.
Phase 2 is the renovation of the District Headquarters. CRFPD has many events for the community and holds training sessions for the staff in the building. The improvements seek to improve the interior comfort of the building and improve their training facilities to allow for national training seminars.
Phase 3 is the design and construction of Station 82 in Redstone. The new fire station will replace the 50-year-old fire station to improve operations and response time for the volunteers and staff.
Phase 4 is the renovation of the 50-year-old Redstone fire station to convert it into workforce housing. The goal of the renovation is to provide a desirable location and comfortable living for staff and volunteer retention.
Phase 5 is the Marble workforce housing project. The project seeks to provide workforce housing near Station 83 in Marble.
Phase 6 is the addition to Station 85 in Missouri Heights. The addition will add 4 living units and a crew quarters for staff and volunteers.
Phase 7 is the construction of the new Carbondale workforce housing. The new construction will provide 24 affordable housing units for future staff to keep up with the growing demand of fire protection and safety.
